This Revitalization Project Made a Splash!

After the Riney B Waterpark was shut down the summer before, they knew they needed to make a change and revitalize their existing space. That’s where Waterplay came in! Working alongside Bluegrass Recreation Sales and Installation, LLC, Waterplay used several epic water features, including a bright, bold activity tower, to create an inclusive design that helped bring this aquatic facility to life.

The Challenge

The earlier closure of the existing waterpark at Riney B forced their team to explore a complete redesign of the space. After determining that the need for an aquatic centre and splash pad was there, the client called in the experts to design an incredible aquatic play area. It was a political make or break for the community, so Waterplay’s expertise and incredible FUN BUiLDS were pulled into the project to help transform the existing space.

The client’s only real request was for the new splash pad to be vibrant, so that left the Waterplay design team with lots of creative freedom to bring together a super fun, bright design that will be fun for all ages. They wanted an activity tower placed in the existing pool space, and a complete overhaul of the existing splash pad space. A lot of focus was placed on choosing features that would cater to kids of all ages and abilities, with the intent of transforming the aquatic park into an incredible, interactive play space for the entire family.  

The Solution

As with any revitalization project, the design process of this splash pad aimed to maximize play value while still catering to everyone who visits the aquatic park. Choosing to place an Activity Tower in the existing pool space was a great way to add tons of fun play elements in a relatively small space. The bright, vibrant colour palette of Waterplay’s magical and mischievous Cirque Collection brings the vibrancy and helps tie all of the splash features together. In addition to the activity tower, a Rain Cap and Aerial Spinster were added to the pool area to really ramp up the splash factor for waterplayers looking for all sorts of thrills.

Over on the pre-existing splash pad, a carefully curated collection of features was chosen to foster creativity, collaboration, and most importantly, fun! Various ground sprays and smaller features that provide gentler play experiences for even the smallest waterplayers, while other larger, freestanding features helped to round out the splash pad, providing swirling, twirling splashes from every angle

The Implementation

Being one of our first Activity Tower installations, the overall implementation of the project came with some struggles at times. Waterplay provided support throughout the entire process, ensuring that every feature was installed correctly and would be safe for use once the water was turned on.

Overall, the response to the new Riney B splash pad was overwhelmingly positive. The new activity tower and bright, vibrant splash pad features were fantastic and brought new life into the existing space. This project also saw Bluegrass Recreation Sales and Installation, LLC be hired to renovate another pool and another splash pad, both in the same county, which just goes to show how incredible these spaces can be when people work together.

The Outcome

Aside from becoming a beautiful, eye-catching aquatic play space for people of all ages, this revitalization project for the Riney B Aquatic Centre allowed the space to come back from a previous closure. Reopening its doors not only allows the park to continue serving the surrounding community, but it also boasts an impressive capacity of approximately 350 people. That’s a lot of waterplayers who can seek fun splashes and thrills every single day!
